About Suzanne

"Suzanne's teaching philosophy is a balance of extremes; she combines amazing physical ability with the wisdom of a sage. There is no injury that she hasn't had and no posture that she hasn't tried. Her attitude makes yoga accessible and fun."

- Andrew Moseson, YA 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training Graduate

Suzanne has Advanced Yoga Teacher Certification from both the YA - Yoga Alliance (ERYT-500) and the YAA - Yoga Association of Alberta (600-hr) and is also a  Certified Yoga Therapist with the IAYT - International Association of Yoga Therapists . She has a diverse background in Ashtanga/Power/Flow, Hatha, Yin, and the martial-arts inspired Budokon Yoga.

Her more specialized therapeutic training includes specific modules in Yin, Tensegrity, Ayurveda, Yoga Nidra, Cancer, Yoga & The Brain, Trauma & Mental Health, Yoga for Anger, Anxiety, Depression and more. Suzanne offers countless unique programs including Yoga for Cancer, Addictions, Brain Injuries, Mindfulness Meditation, & Sleep Disorders. Workshops she has hosted include everything from Advanced Arm Balances & Inversions to Budokon (martial-arts inspired) Primary Series and Chakra Balancing.

She has tons of experience teaching diverse populations (Older Adults, At-Risk Youth, Athletes, Children) in many settings, so you'll get a great foundation to "grow your practice" in the direction life takes you. Suzanne logs about 1000 hours of teaching annually and has taught full-time for over a decade. You do the math!

Suzanne also draws from her background as a martial artist (3rd degree black belt), elite athlete (mountain-biking), multi-sport coaching background (NCCP skiing, cycling, kayaking), fitness leader expertise (AFLCA), and experience as a College Kinesiology Instructor. Your yoga studio will be a beautiful round yurt with high domed ceiling, a stunning varnished wood floor, a fireplace, and large windows & deck looking out onto mountains. You’ll start every morning with your meditation & asana practice here (facing the mountains in the peace & quiet)!

Your lodge & 17-day home-away-from-home has a large common room with lots of glass & natural light looking out onto the mountains. There are big comfy chairs, couches, & tables for sharing, studying & lounging. Glass doors walk straight out onto a huge multi-level deck. Here you can take in the sunshine, eat your meal outside, sit in the grass or woods in meditation, or just enjoy some down time in the mountain serenity. An outdoor campfire area is a stone’s-throw away from the lodge for our evening tranquility.

All amazing yummy meals are provided starting Saturday morning. (16 days of no grocery shopping or cooking) The group dining area is casual, warm & inviting. You will be encouraged to partake in a healthy nourishing whole food diet that is primarily plant-based. A great buffet-style selection of food is provided at each meal so you can make choices that integrate your learning about Ayurvedic eating directly into your day. Special dietary needs are easily accommodated. Help-yourself coffee, teas & juices always available.

Goldeye Lake is a 15 minute stroll in the woods away so expect some group outings for yoga-by-the-water … or a brisk mountain lake dip if you want one. There is a loop trail around the lake for longer meditative nature walks. The larger Fish Lake is also nearby.

Afternoon excursions will include short trips to places such as Siffleur or Crescent Falls (to do some hiking) or the stunning Abraham Lake (to partake in some “yoga-on-the-rocks” overlooking the turquoise waters). There is an outdoor climbing wall and slack-line on site for the adventurous. SUP yoga and a refreshing dip are definite possibilities on the nearby lakes. Other outdoor adventures (e.g. kayaking, mountain-biking, via ferrata, etc.) will be arranged depending on interest, time, & availability of equipment &/or guides.

Bed-rooms are simple alpine-style with your own bed. Newly-renovated shared bathroom & shower facilities are only a few steps away from your room. Accommodation will be 2-3 people per room.  All linens including towels & bedding are provided.

Our human hosts, Cheri & Rolph, are amazing people so you are sure to enjoy your stay. If you are an animal lover, you can also share some quality snuggle time with the friendly resident “canine hosts” Rocky, Hobo & Wilson.
